Jack Kauffman, with his youngest child in his arms, offers a tearful thanks to Habitat for Humanity for a new beginning in Jordan’s Crossing.

On June 27, Habitat for Humanity dedicated the Jordan’s Crossing neighborhood at Rhodes Avenue and Sixth Street, the organization’s first planned community in Sarasota. Four new homes and one Rehabitat home were the focus of the ceremony.

Jack and Carolyn Kauffman and several of their children expressed gratitude for a new place to live; they lost their previous home in a hurricane – a tragedy that caused Carolyn to endure a stressed pregnancy before their seventh child was born.

Tina Fread and her three children cut the ribbon on the symbolic door of their new home. The door had been painted by students at the Ringling College of Art and Design. Photos by Ric Miracle.
