Dynamic effects
Unique leaded stained glass wall hangings created by Nokomis artist Sam Murray will be featured in a one-person show during January at Art Uptown on lower Main Street in Sarasota.
The artist produces one-of-a-kind pieces using a wide variety of glass set in contemporary metal frames.

"So Into You."
A graduate of the New Hampshire Institute of Art, Murray is a master carpenter and cabinet maker who worked for more than 25 years in New England, where he perfected his skills, he says.

Today he applies his talents to leaded glass designs that combine distinctive textures in an array of colors and types. In designing wall hangings in glass, he pays particular attention to the lighting factor, he explains.
"Light creates changing effects on leaded glass, which results in wall hangings that appear dynamic, not static in appearance, and are a delight to look at," Murray says.

His creations will be showcased Jan. 2-30 at Art Uptown.
The gallery is located at 1367 Main St. An artist’s reception with refreshments is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 15, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Art Uptown is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 941-955-5409 or visit www.artuptown.com.
