THE HUB IS RIGHT
Regarding a recent letter to the editor by a former retired, out-of-state lawyer questioning the status of The Hub and its right to the frontage it seeks: I noticed quite an irony with that Pelican Press edition.
On the "Letters To The Editor" page, quite a large amount of space was dedicated to this one letter writer who used laws that were 30 and 40 years old and finally cited one law from 2002 to make his argument to have the county deny The Hub’s requests.
Fandango’s had a reputation for energy, lively music and good food. The Hub carries on that tradition in that location.
Having been part of the special exemption processes before in Sarasota County, when the planning commission voted against granting JB’s a live entertainment special exemption only to have the entire county commission vote in favor of it, I can see no reason, legal or otherwise, why The Hub should not be granted its proposals.
The irony I speak of, is that on another page of the Pelican, you have a Siesta Key Association director lauding both the sheriff’s department and the night life establishments for toning down the noise and sounds during a recently held "Pub Crawl" that in the past caused distress to some residents who reside at Terrace East; yet, they now are very happy with changes and consideration that both the bar owners and law enforcement have given to these events.
Then, there is the retired attorney citing laws and, in my opinion, flawed logic in attempting to handicap and hinder a food and beverage establishment right in the heart of Siesta Village that has every right to operate as it presently is.
The village is not a place of tranquility; it is a vibrant Mecca of energy and life and always has been.
Why some people move down to residences near the village and expect it to be a totally quiet and lifeless area defies common sense.
The key has its own lifestyle and it’s own image of night life.
Nobody and nothing should stop what has always been from always staying that way.

REPUBLICANS THREW LEGAL WORKERS 'UNDER TRAIN'
Republican Majority Leader Hasner, undoubtedly at the direction of House Speaker Cretul, threw legal workers of Florida under the train during the recent TRI-RAIL boondoggle special interests legislation in favor of illegal alien workers.
Hasner revealed his hand when Rep Long, Rep. Randolph and Sen. Sobel, all Democrats, offered amendments to Line 976 of the bill. Each amendment required E-Verify be used, which would ensure all new hires would be legal workers. Not one Republican offered an amendment requiring E-Verify.
Rep. Long had barely filed Amendment 436557 to protect Florida’s legal workers when Hasner filed amendments 193279 and 984197 amending 436557, removing the language requiring E-Verify, thus throwing Florida’s legal workers under the train in favor of illegal alien workers.
"Leadership" knows the most effective tool to turn off the illegal aliens jobs faucet is to mandate E-Verify for all businesses, and it is determined to keep the illegal aliens job faucet wide open.
Arizona passed mandatory E-Verify for all licensed businesses and in 18 months one-third of all illegal aliens self-deported; crime went down in Phoenix by 25 percent, although the city remains the kidnapping and stolen car capital of the country because of illegal aliens.
Similar results in Florida would result in 350,000 illegal aliens self-deporting.

USE OF PSALM IS UNCONSCIONABLE
A few on the far right are actually praying for the death of our president. I wish I was making this up but it is unfortunately true. They even put the psalm behind this prayer on a cute teddy bear. The teddy bear says on it, "Pray for Obama, Psalm 109:8."
It says, "Let his days be few; and let another take his office." Fine until one reads the following lines, "Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places."
Are those promoting this psalm going to state they never read the lines after 109.8? Frankly what we have is a bunch of people so inflamed with hatred for the president that they cannot wait to try to defeat him in 2012 but are actively praying for his removal. How many of them are aware or even care that this prayer deals with the death of a leader? I hope none of them are actually praying for the death of President Obama. If one is going to pray for the removal of a leader, what about the despot Kim Jung Il of North Korea instead?
This should not be too surprising. After all, a columnist with Newsmax (John Perry) states after musing about a military coup against President Obama, "Unthinkable? Then think up an alternative, non-violent solution to the Obama problem. Just don’t shrug and say, ‘We can always worry about that later.’"
Yes, so much for elections. So much for elections indeed when the far right believes that elections are not a way to solve "the Obama problem" because your choice was rejected by the American people. Ironically the presidential choices of the far right were even rejected by GOP primary voters when they nominated John McCain.
Who is sovereign in America? It is the American people. No monarchs, no generals and no one’s view of an avenging deity that would remove a president for you. Fortunately I do not believe that the views of these on the far right are the views of the average conservative. The average conservative disagrees with the president in part or to a good degree and that is fine.
I do not ask people to support the president on anything if they believe he is wrong. No president should receive unconditional support from anyone be it domestic or a military policy. If you are a conservative who opposes him but isn’t consumed with unending hatred for the president then I am perfectly fine with that. If you are a right-winger who believes Obama is a secret Muslim and was born in Kenya I must ask you that even if you disagree with the president can you not see that just like President Bush he is a man who wants the best for the U.S., even if you might disagree with him. President Obama is not the devil, he is not evil incarnate, he is just a flawed individual just like everyone else.
